About

Piermont Straus Foundation, Inc. is a capacity builder, helping other organizations involved in the Environment, Arts, Culture and History of the region. These are typically organizations needing to create or maintain their mission. We help them define and execute those projects that best fulfill their goals, whilst making them sustainable, bringing the practical support or direct income they need to keep going. Authorized by the IRS as a tax exempt 501(c)3 on April 5th, 2012, the Foundation has already begun to make an impact. The Foundation has obtained grants and facilitated fundraisers for many Rockland community based programs, such as the VOX/Piermont Chamber of Commerce maps and signage project, the 2013 Piermont Art Walk, the 2014 Art in the Park Festival, the Piermont Holiday Festival, Piermont’s Bastille Day Festival, the Piermont Community Beautification Program, the Piermont Community Garden, as well as obtaining an award to the Tolstoy Foundation. The Foundation helped obtain Piermont's Storm Surge Mitigations grant, in association with Scenic Hudson and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and serves as an active member of this committee. We also administer a yearly art grant awarding a solo exhibition and $500 stipend at the Piermont Straus Gallery.

The Foundation also provides retreat facilitators for nonprofits seeking organizational aid, and we design and maintain web sites for several nonprofit groups, while providing social media planning and marketing strategies for other nonprofits and community based initiatives. The Foundation also offers a full range of financial services including tax filing and registration, and has successfully obtained nonprofit status for the Piermont Chamber of Commerce, the Piermont Civic Association, and provided financial consulting services and fiscal sponsorship to the Piermont Chamber of Commerce, the Sparkill Creek Watershed Alliance, and Strawtown Art & Garden Studio.
